The Inception: Orlando Magic

By Chevall Kanhai
July 27, 2010

Yesterday was a big day if you were following the Chris Paul fiasco. For anyone that has seen Christopher Nolan's summer's blockbuster "Inception" you can probably understand this comparison I've formulated. Magic fans across the globe got their hopes up of the reports (or idea planted) that Chris Paul would be arriving this fall in a Magic jersey so, yesterday was very important. The meeting of Chris Paul, his agent Leon Woods, and brother C.J. along with new New Orleans G.M. Dell Demps and head coach Monty Williams took place.

The Outcome
Dell Demps met with the media after the meeting with Paul and stated that everything went according as planned. It was also noted that Paul did not request a trade out of New Orleans.

“I was encouraged. It was the first time I’d met Chris. It was a good opportunity for us to open the lines of communication. Chris had some very good points. He’s a smart, young, intelligent person, and I was really excited about the meeting.

“He did not request a trade.”

So, Dell Demps feels confident that Chris Paul will be in a Hornets jersey now how does Chris feel?

"The meeting went well. It was great to get an opportunity to sit down with coach Williams, president Weber and our new general manager, Dell Demps,"

"I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team. I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come."

So, where does the confusing part come in? Well this part is up to you and what you believe in. This story from Ken Berger of CBS Sports claims it was all a cover up. Chris couldn't leave that meeting looking like a disgruntled superstar and wanting out especially, with him having no leverage. Supposedly, this is a part of Paul's "exit strategy" and, he still wants out of New Orleans.

The reality is New Orleans probably isn't going to trade Chris Paul. The idea/dream? Chris Paul is going be in a Magic uniform. Well that's what I'm going to stick to for now.

Are the dreams of Chris Paul in a Magic uniform still spinning in your mind Magic fans?
