Magic Rumors and News 2011 Summer Boil

The summer started early for the Orlando Magic after receiving an "upset" bounce out of the playoffs at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. The title hopes and long playoff run all ended much too early for the Magic nation. Now that its all said and done for the 2010-2011 season all talks have now turned to Dwight Howard and his contract situation.
Less than 24 hours after their summer started GM Otis Smith claimed he had an extension offer on the table for his franchise center. Dwight objected and said he hasn't seen one. Weeks later there is the misleading report from David Pingalore of Local 6 Orlando that Dwight spent Memorial Day weekend working on an extension that was due to be finalized and signed within days. Dwight himself also shot down that report claiming it false.

So, what is truly going on behind the closed doors? Orlando has suffered from the Shaq effect whom walked out of Orlando to shine bright in Los Angeles. Do we really want another dominant big man leaving this franchise in shambles? The same man who left wants to see Dwight stay in Orlando and win 3 or 4 titles as he announced that in his retirement speech. The situation has risen again and Orlando fans are in limbo.
As fans of the game we can get carried away at testing out own General Manager ideas but nonetheless lets note the popular vote; a change is needed yet again for the Magic

A few die hard fans have laid down thoughts in forums and around social networks. "Get Chris Paul", "I'll take Iggy from Philly" or, "Monta Ellis would be a great fit".
There is a simple plan for the summer of 2011 and that's doing it all to keep Dwight Howard in a Magic jersey for years to come. Easier said than done especially with the current investments that the franchise has. On top of that a new collective bargaining agreement could help or hurt the Magic pending its details.
Change is forecasted in Orlando however, will it happen? How will it happen? Who? Where? When? Those are questions that this summer will eventually answer for the Orlando Magic.

Back in Black?

Yesterday, the NBA revealed their new jerseys from Adidas dubbed "NBA Revolution 30". Debuting the jerseys at the NBA Store in New York was Orlando's very own Dwight Howard alongside Brook Lopez and Jordan Farmer of the New Jersey Nets and Wilson Chandler of the New York Knicks.

"Designed and developed by Adidas, the uniforms are 30 percent lighter and dry twice as fast as previous NBA uniforms to help enhance player performance by keeping athletes cooler, drier and more comfortable on the court. All 30 NBA teams will wear the new uniforms beginning this season"-Full Article

While it's all but official from the Magic and league the black alternate jerseys many Magic fans have dreamed about is now deemed a reality. Dime Magazine released these photos yesterday on their website of the new look. Furthermore, there is no exact date of when these will go on sale or which games the Magic will wear them. As soon as that information is release it will be posted!

Dust the Cobwebs!

Yellow flags and the pigskin are thrown around every Sunday and, the Monday night showdowns are back as the NFL kicks-off. Well if you're like me and a whole other set of sports fans this can be a huge milestone. The NBA is about a month away from the pre-season starting and eventually the regular season!

Spring Cleaning in September?
Let's dust the cobwebs off and revise of what a slow last two months of the NBA off-season has brought upon us. The Carmelo Anthony rumors died down but just this week have arose again with the Denver front showing some promise in trading the All-Star Forward. On the Magic front they have announced the signing of Malik Allen to a non-guaranteed contract which means, he's probably unlikely to make the team after training camp. While the Magic are in preparations to open training camp next Tuesday, the organization's new Amway Center is also almost set for their grand opening on October 1st, 2010. This event is open to ALL fans and gets under way at 9:30 am. I encourage all fans to attend and witness the ribbon cutting at 10:01 am by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

The occasional Magic media day will be next Monday, September 27 and the rest of the week will conclude with training camp. The Magic open out their pre-season play in Houston October 5th; Tip-off is 8:30 pm EST.

Carmelo to the Magic? It's Possibility.

Carmelo Anthony to the Magic?

Carmelo Anthony has refused to sign the extension the 3 year-$65 million extension the Nuggets have proposed. With Carmelo's recent toast of playing in New York in 2011, Lebron and Bosh both leaving to play with Wade, the Denver Nuggets have said they are willing to deal Carmelo is he is not willing to sign the extension. With all the trade rumors the Orlando Magic have been in this off-season, CP3 and even Boozer, it is time to add Carmelo Anthony to the mix.

The Orlando Magic obviously have the pieces to give the Denver Nuggets, we have an expiring contract in Vince Carter, we have talented players in Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, and Brandon Bass, and we have the draft picks. Do not be surprised if a third team or a fourth team is added to the scenario to match up caps and take different talents and players. Houston has reportedly had interest in Rashard Lewis.

How would Carmelo fit in the Magic system? Carmelo Anthony is a great mid-range scorer, and has experience playing with Dwight. Carmelo is one of the top closers in the league, and will take more pressure off the surrounding players. Orlando would finally have that true go-to scorer they have been looking for, and Carmelo isn't looking to close out his career with a bang, he is just entering the prime of his career.

Do I think it will happen? The odds are very unlikely for this to happen. Is there a chance? Yes there is. Do not get your hopes up for this trade though. If I had my guess, Orlando is second in grabbing Carmelo. I believe the New York Knicks will be Carmelo Anthony destination. The Knicks are offering Gallo, expiring contract Eddy Curry to grab Carmelo, and most likely more. Otis Smith has repeatedly stayed firm on his stance that he really likes this team. Otis being Otis or not, I do not believe we will make a move or completely rebuild this team to grab Carmelo. Keep your CP3 wishing day job.
